The project involves constructing a multi-purpose hall for the local school and the village by providing a space for educational, sports, cultural, and community activities. The school is located in Bissiri, a village of approximately 5,000 inhabitants in Burkina Faso. The main beneficiaries are the 330 pupils and the local community. The context is marked by poverty and a low literacy rate. The people of Bissiri mainly depend on agriculture and lack resources to meet basic needs.
The multi-purpose hall will host various activities. For the school, it will be used for sports activities, theater, dance, music, and meditation sessions. For the village, it will serve as a meeting place for events, concerts, and traditional festivals. It will also accommodate awareness meetings, training sessions, debates, and sports competitions. Additionally, the hall has the potential to become a public space fostering social interactions.
The construction will use local materials and techniques suited to the environment. The main structure will be made of reinforced concrete post-and-beam framing. The facades will be built with compressed earth blocks and from local laterite stone. The roof will feature a metal frame with a steel sheet covering, the ceiling will consist of wooden planks from the region. The architectural design is adapted to the climate, incorporating overhangs for sun protection, optimal orientation for wind and rain, and a sloped roof for efficient water and hot air evacuation.
The project will have a significant social and humanitarian impact by providing a space for educational, cultural, and social activities while using local materials and promoting regional craftsmanship.
